Spectacular medieval Salzburg with it's beautiful alpine surroundings and Baroque architecture is most famous for being the birthplace of Mozart and home to the film, The Sound of Music.

Perched above Salzburg is the largest completely preserved castle in Europe, the Hohensalzburg Fortress (construction began almost 1000 years ago!)

Visit the beautiful Mirabell Palace & Gardens, the catacombs of Salzburg, the amazing water palace Hellbrunn, and tour Mozart's house.

For movie lovers, a must is the "Sound of Music" tour that takes you to many of the locations where the film took place.

Tour the world's oldest saltmine, Salzbergwerke (2500 years old!) and then visit the amazing lakeside mountain village of Hallstatt. In Hallstatt you can tour one of the largest glacial ice cave complexes in the world, the Dachstein caves.

Take a tour of the Eagle's Nest, in nearby Berchtesgaden, famous for being Hitler's retreat and hideaway.

Salzburg is a beer lover's paradise as it is home to dozens of beerhalls, and one in particular, the Augustiner Braustubl-Mulin, is where monks have been producing some of the finest beer on the planet since 1621.

This city comes alive at night with its dozens of bars and clubs that entertain the many university students studying here and tourists alike.

As well, spectular daytrips are all within an 1.5 hours or less of Salzburg. Visit Innsbruck, Austria (home to two winter Olympics) or even cross the border into Munich, Germany!
